Report over Dimensions Festival

Why did you come all the way to Dimensions Festival?

Door Joy Schouten op maandag 29 augustus 2016

Onze reporter Joy zit met festivalgangers vanuit de hele wereld op Dimensions Festival. Ze interviewde 5 paar bezoekers van het festival.

Craig & Oscar, London, 23.

Why did you come all the way to dimensions?

Because of the line-up mostly. We are volunteering here. You'll have to work a few shifts as steward and then you can get a free ticket. We met the volunteering manager in a club in London, so we managed to get the same shifst.

Any differences with festivals back home?

The weather obviously. And there are a lot of different people here. It is nice to meet so many different personalities. There is this new festival in london with the same line-up (Sunfall) but thats a one day festival.

Did you ever go to other foreign festivals?

No I didnt (Craig). I (Oscar) went to outlook festival a few years ago. But the music is a bit more rough, this festival is more mellow.

How did you get here?

It was a long journey, we took a plane and then a coach. It took about 12 hours. We are here with the two of us.

Would you come again?

Not as a volunteer, but we would definately come again. It looks good on my cv to have done volunteers work (Craig). I liked doing it, but it is hard to combine the shifts with a night of partying.

Whats your favourite artist?

Hodge, mostly uk techno. It was the best performance that i ever saw. Good vibe, you noticed that it were mostly people who were actually interested in the dj himself and came specifically to his performance.

What do you think about the organisation (terrain/toilets/bars)?

The terrain looks very cool, enough decorations. And its good thats there are indoor and outdoor showers etc. Its a lot of walking, but overall theres nothing to moan about.

Whats the weirdest thing that you have witnessed here?

The psy trance island, bizarre people that are too fucked up to dance. One of my mates has slept in the wrong tent by accident. The dog patrol is also crazy, it feels like we're in prison. The police is very corrupt, we heard a lot of scary stories. Also, there was a sick party around 07:00 with speakers and about 40 people in the showers! Didnt expect that when we walked back to our tent.

Juliet & Rebecca, Paris, 19 & 18

Why did you come all the way to Dimensions?

Because we love this type of music and the artists. Back in Paris are more parties and not festivals.

Any differences with festivals back home?

There is police everywhere. Undercover police have come in our tent when we were at the festival. And they tried to sell us drugs, but then they wanted to let us pay money.

Did you ever go to other foreign festivals?

No never, this is the first time abroad

How did you get here?

By plane, we combined the festival with a vacation of two weeks in croatia.

Would you come again? Why?

Not sure. I really like the location, but it is quite expensive. And the thing with the police really scared us. So 50/50 chance.

Favourite artist?

Ben Klock, just saw a little of his show though, I got too tired. I liked the second night of the festival best, the music was really good and I danced all nigth.

What do you think about the organisation (terrain/toilets/bars)?

I like the terrain, but i dont like the cold showers and everything is quite expensive. And you have to wait in a cue for a lot of stages.

Whats the weirdest thing that you have witnessed here?

The encounter with the undercover police.

Callum & Alice, Leads, 24

Why did you come all the way to Dimensions?

Because of the line-up and the beautiful setting.

Are there any differences with festivals back home?

It was different a few years ago, but nos it is quite the same. Beside of the setting and the sunshine though.

Did you ever go to other foreign festivals?

Yes quite a few. Sunsplash in Spain, thats a reggae festival. And Outlook here in Croatia.

Her friends came and put some liquid xtc in her nose and told me she was fine

How did you get here?

We drove, just the two of us. Six days, we took it steady.

Would you come again? Why?

I would, but i want to experience new things, so id rather go to something new. There are so many festivals that I still want to visit, so it depends on who is playing really.

Whats your favourite artist?

Larry Heard, but we got too tired to actually see him.

What do you think about the organisation (terrain/toilets/bars)?

Looks good overall, but a couple more toilets and showers would be good. I dont like the cues for the toilets, nobody wants to wait when they really have to go. There are nice facilities though and the organisation is good.

Whats the weirdest thing that you have witnessed here (first thing you would tell your friends)?

I think the journey was more noteworthy than any weird things on the festival. Wednesday night was a really good set, kmaah radio was streaming and that was pretty good.

Anton, Carl & beatrice, 28, 27, 25, Germany

Why did you come all the way to Dimensions?

Because Jack J (our favourite dj) is playing and Jeremy Underground. This is our goodbye travel/party, because Carl is moving to Austria.

Are there any differences with festivals back home?

More british people, better weather and the sea is very chill. There is a lot of civil police here. At Fusion festival for example, police is not allowed in the area.

Did you ever go to other foreign festivals?

Yeah, dekmantel in the netherlands and beat patrol in austria.

How did you get here?

We drove in a rented car, which we will probably have to buy now. It took about 8 hours.

Would you come again? Why?

Yeah, we can make this a yearly thing so we can meet up with carl.

Whats your favourite artist?

Jack j and liam, there artist name is Pender Street Steppers

What do you think about the organisation (terrain/toilets/bars)?

The tickets are not that cheap, so we would expect a bit more service. For example the fact that you dont get a printed time table. And when you need information, it is hard to find the right place. You get sent from one information point to another. It took 2,5 hours to get our tickets. Very good that they have the volunteering aspect for people that cant afford the ticket. System with the tokens is shit, you cannot change back your tokens to money. And its a little bit expensive compared to croatian prices. I (Beatrice) dont get that the music stops at 6:00, they could just have one stage with music, that would be good. But overall there is very friendly staff. The security greets me (Carl) with "My Lord".

Whats the weirdest/sickest thing that you have witnessed here?

We organized a flashmob in the parking lot. And the psy trance island is crazy. There was this British girl who was so fucked up and fell into my arms. Her friends came and put some liquid xtc in her nose and told me she was fine. Furthermore just a good vibe and good music and nice setting.

Thomas & Andrea, Salzburg, 25 & 20

Why Dimensions?

Because the festival area looked very inviting, not really about the music, but they do have some diversity.

Any differences with festivals back home?

We dont have a token system, we usually just pay with money. And of course the environment. They are a bit overprotective here with the dog patrol etc.

Did you ever go to other foreign festivals?

Yeah on Jamaica, there are a lot of concerts and festivals around. More usual to put big speakers on the streets and make a party. They are really strict at the entrance in jamaica, but once youre in thats very different.

How did you get here?

By car, it took about 5 hours. We stayed in croatia before and we will stay here for a bit after the festival.

Would you come again? Why?

No, there is too much electronic music for my taste. Maybe ill come back to Croatia for sea splash, thats smaller and more relaxed.

Favourite artist?

Hiatus Kaiyote, a very chill band

What do you think about the organisation (terrain/toilets/bars)?

Decorations are awesome. Nothing to complain about. Maybe a bit of a walk from the festival to the campisite, but thats also good because of the noise.

Whats the weirdest/sickest thing that you have witnessed here?

The British people going crazy.
